2017 Recap/New Year

Fashion, Lifestyle

I know I’m a little late for a New Year’s post, but we’re still only a week in. I wanted to share a little recap of 2017 and some goals I’ve set for the year 2018.

The year 2017 was a long year, but went by really fast (how is that possible, right?). It was kind of crazy in some ways too. We moved in with David’s parents on New Year’s Day 2017, we closed on our newly built home and moved in the same day 3 months later, Sophia turned 2, we adopted a new doggie (Charm) who is a royal puppy pain :P, David proposed (! …finally), the Houston Astros won the World Series(!), and David and I found out that I was pregnant.

Right before Christmas, my family and I found out the devastating news that my youngest sibling, my little brother, Dillon, was re-diagnosed with the same cancer he had when he was 15 and was “cured” of. It came back furiously this year with a lot of physical pain to his body and a lot of sleepless nights. He went into the hospital and was able to be released before the Christmas holiday. We were so grateful that he was in good spirits and able to spend the weekend holiday with us. He was readmitted to the hospital shortly after and started receiving chemo. He has not left the hospital since and has been feeling really weak and unwell. For those of you who know Dillon, he is a beanpole, and since he’s been in the hospital, he’s lost at least 10 pounds. Dillon’s doctors say that this particular cancer (Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma) is incurable. It can be treated with chemo to shrink the tumors, but they will only continue to come back. It’s been a tough transition into this new year for my family, but we have so many people supporting and encouraging and praying for us, and that has been a HUGE blessing. We can only continue to keep going, and pray that God will heal him.

So, all that to say, 2017 has given me a change of mind and heart and I have some goals for this year that I’d actually like to accomplish! And share with you all! I don’t normally do the whole “New Year’s Resolution” thing, because it just seems like to me most people don’t even stick to their goals and I never wanted to be that person (so let’s just do nothing..lame, I know).. Since getting pregnant, I have felt SOOOO different (duh), but I mean completely different than my pregnancy with Sophia. I felt GREAT with Sophia minus some exhaustion in the first trimester. This time? Nausea, exhaustion, having absolutely no motivation to do anything because of being so exhausted… but now that I’ve made it to my second trimester, I feel a bit better. But I know that I could feel EVEN better if I ate a healthier diet and exercised. I’ve always been a more athletic type and like to work out, but it can be hard to do when pregnant. So my first and second goals for this year are to (1) Eat healthier (cook more) and (2) Exercise! I started exercising and running before the holidays and it feels great to get outside and run, or do the workout plan that I signed up for in my living room or backyard. The workout plan also has yoga available which I like to do as well. And sometimes my little Sophia will do the exercises with me in her cute little way 🙂 The workout plan I use has an app called SWEAT. It’s the BBG (Bikini Body Guide) workout program by Kayla Itsines. I’ve been doing what I can as a pregnant momma (I’m limited to certain workouts) with her program and I really LOVE it! My ultimate goal in doing this is to be able to bounce right back to my normal self after this pregnancy and workout to my fullest!

My third goal is to cherish the time with my little family more and spend quality time with them. Especially my fiance, soon-to-be husband. Whether that’s at home or taking time away from home for a little getaway for time to ourselves, as a couple or as a family. Sometimes we just get caught in the way of life with social media and other media at our fingertips that we forget to go outside and play and enjoy the quality time and fresh air. I’m so guilty of that, which is why my goal is to have more family time.

My fourth goal is to expand my blog, post more and connect a business to it. I’ve been wanting to get into the makeup industry for years now and have just not been motivated enough to get it done. I’ve done a few weddings on the side, but it would fun to get a business rolling and connect that with my blogging!

Those are my 4 main goals for this year and I will pour myself into going above and beyond those goals!

By the way, this dress is one of my all time faves and I feel so good in it! It’s hard to feel good or cute in something when you have a watermelon growing on you.. so thanks to this dress, I actually felt cute! And I love red! I don’t wear it or buy it often because it’s such bold color, but I really do love wearing it! This dress would have been great for Christmas if I had it before then, but it’s also great for Valentine’s Day coming up! It’s a great date night look or for a fun, all girls, Valentine’s Day party look!

Wedding Reception

Last weekend I had the privilege of attending my brother’s and his sweet new wife’s wedding reception at Lakeside Bible Church in Montgomery, TX. It was so beautiful and I had such a wonderful time mingling with all our friends and family in the area and all who attended. My little brother picked a good woman to be by his side for the rest of his life and I am happy to welcome her to our family! I snapped a few pictures on my camera of the reception (decor, the delicious cupcakes my sister made!) and some family ones before my camera died. I forgot to charge my battery before I left… Of course.. But we got some good ones! I hope you guys are enjoying your weekend!

Thanks for stopping by!

xoxo, K 🙂

Pumpkin Patch Fun

Hello, everyone!

I wanted to share pictures from our trip to the pumpkin patch with our family. We had so much fun at the pumpkin patch last weekend with my sister and her family! We went to Love Creek Orchards Pumpkin Patch just a little ways away from home. The drive there is so beautiful and it really looked and felt like Fall. I love Fall so much! Just right outside of San Antonio, a few minutes from where we live, is the Texas Hill Country. Probably the closest thing Texas could get to mountains. It’s my favorite part of Texas! At the pumpkin patch, they had train rides, a pumpkin maze, FOOD, pony rides, a pumpkin painting station, a petting zoo, face painting, ALL kinds of fun stuff for the kids to do, and of course TONS of pumpkins to pick from to take home for carving! I can’t wait to carve the pumpkins we have with Sophia. We also had the privilege of enjoying freshly made apple juice from the apple trees in their orchards! It was so delicious! We all had so much fun and the weather was perfect! It’s always fun spending time with cousins and siblings. Sophia had a blast with her cousins, and was sad when they had to leave. She still talks about her Emmy (my sister) and her cousins.

What are some things you guys like to do in the Fall?

xoxo, K

Trick? Or Treat?

Hello everyone! As I sit here with my WoodWick Cinnabark candle crackling and burning, and listening to jazzy Michael Buble’ radio on pandora, I am enjoying the feeling of Fall. And the cooler weather that’s been in town has been a welcome change to this part of Texas that shows true signs of Fall. It always comes to us Texans a lot later! I hope it stays for a while! I love Fall and colder weather. I didn’t use to, but I sure love it and appreciate it now. All things pumpkin, sweaters, boots, no bugs, cinnamon and leaves candles, the color change of the trees, the way the sunlight hits the earth. I just love it all!

I have told you many times that life has been pretty crazy lately. Believe me, it really has. And I can assure you this is no trick! Today marks a little over a month that we found out about a new Alcorta Family addition. We will be welcoming Baby Alcorta #2 sometime in the month of May. As stressful and chaotic as life has been with wedding planning, finding out that we will be adding another baby in the mix, and feeling completely exhausted and sometimes nauseous, I still would not trade it for anything. We are excited about our new little baby, and cannot wait to welcome him/her into the world. We are looking forward to what this new and crazy journey has in store for us. And I am sure Sophia will love having a new playmate around the house. She loves babies, but we’ll see how she responds in the beginning. I know she will do great though. We are thankful for every little part of life that comes our way, and we are extremely joyful for a new little baby. I’ve had baby fever for quite some time, but I didn’t think it would happen to us this soon! We are excited to be a family of FOUR!

We are also thankful for the support we have had from our families. Life just wouldn’t be the same without them!

P.S. All the photos below are FULLY descriptive of Sophia’s personality. Haha!

XOXO, Kailey

Our Engagement

Lifestyle, Personal

Good morning, loves! Happy FRIDAY!

*WARNING* – This is a long read!

To start off, I’m sharing the story of how David and I met. I was about 21 when I first met him. I was kind of young and dumb at the time (haha) and into cars and going to car shows. We first “met” on social media via this car scene, and talked through text, phone calls, and FaceTime, but it never really turned into anything serious. It died off after about 3 months and I moved to Dallas to pursue a makeup career while nannying full time. I was at work one day and received a message on Instagram from David, 6 months later, asking if I had changed my number (I had), and he proceeded to ask for my new number. I gave him a bit of a hard time because we hadn’t talked in so long and I didn’t know what his intentions were this time. But we picked up again over text, phone calls, and FaceTime. It started to get a little more serious this time and he started asking me to come visit him in San Antonio. We still hadn’t met in person, so I was skeptical and told him no every time he asked. And let me tell you, he practically begged for me to come for a while, haha! I finally told him I would visit, but it would only be for the day. So, I drove to San Antonio on a sunny Sunday morning and made it by the afternoon. I was so nervous meeting him in person, he didn’t care. He had had a good night with his friends the night before so he was feeling it that morning.. *rolls eyes*. We hung out at his parents’ house for a while. I had the privilege of meeting his family, and then later we went on our first “date” to Wing Stop about 10  minutes away. And I guess the rest is history. I went home that night, and we continued to visit each other over the next several months until I lost my job in Dallas. After that, I packed up my stuff and moved to San Antonio so that we could be closer and not do long distance anymore. It was hard having a long distance relationship. But here we are almost 4 years later, engaged with a beautiful new home and a sweet 2-year-old daughter, and about to be married! We have both changed SO MUCH since the first day we met, and I am happy to say I am proud of who we’ve become as individuals and together. And I am especially proud of my very hard-working man!

Next up, Big Bend! What an experience this was! I had a wedding to do makeup for in Dallas with my friend, Julie on Saturday afternoon. So I drove to Dallas Saturday morning, met with Julie, drove to the venue, did makeup til 5;30pm, packed up and drove back to San Antonio. I made it back to San Antonio at 10:20ish, washed my face and grabbed David, and we left by 11pm that night after getting food and headed straight to Big Bend National Park. We literally drove ALL night to get there before sunrise. It was grueling to say the least. David drove the first 2 hours of the trip, and I slept in the back on a pallet I made on top of the folded down seats in my car. And then we switched so that he could sleep while I drove. he was supposed to drive another hour, but he could hardly keep his eyes open and his hitting the grooves on the side of the road were waking me up. So, I drove for the next 2 and a half hours. By that time, we were basically in the middle of nowhere, with no town, gas station, or street lights in sight. I didn’t really think much of it until we started getting low on gas…I was starting to worry, and then my worry was turning into mild panic. I had 80 miles left on my gas tank and there was NOTHING in sight. I couldn’t see a thing beyond my headlights. It was also overcast and raining so it was extra dark. Then I hit 40 miles on my tank and STILL not a single town or gas station. By then I had been praying so hard that a gas station would pop up somewhere and I was trying extremely hard to contain my worry and panic. David woke up around this time and asked, “How are we on gas?”, and I just answered, “I’m worried…”. Then finally, out of NOWHERE, we saw street lights that turned into a VERY small town and there, right in front of us, was a gas station! If I wasn’t driving, I would have been jumping up and down, but I was certainly so relieved and thankful to God for providing a gas station at JUST the right time. Imagine if we had gotten stranded out there!! I would have been bawling my eyes out and scared half to death, haha! We were still a good distance from the park too. So after we filled up, David continued the drive until we got to the entrance of the park and then we switched again. We got to the entrance around 4am and the drive through the park was another two hours to get where we wanted to be. It was quite scary driving through the park in the dark. it was so black I couldn’t see anything next to me. Only what was 10ft in front of me. I couldn’t see if there was a drop-off off the side of the road, I couldn’t see the mountains. Nothing. And then we hit a dirt road that had several large puddles we had to cross which made me super nervous because I was afraid we were going to get stuck. And this dirt road got very narrow towards the end… SO SCARY! But we finally made it to our destination by 6am and started getting ready for pictures. I did my makeup quickly, forgot to brush my hair, I brushed my teeth (in the car), and got dressed. David fixed his hair and got dressed and then we followed our photographer on the little hike to the river to start taking pictures. We were exhausted, but it truly was worth the drive. Once the sun started coming out, we could see EVERYTHING! And boy was it gorgeous! I cannot wait to go back, but next time we will not be driving all night to get there..

I hope you guys enjoyed these two stories! I tried to keep them short, but I couldn’t leave the good details out! Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to read the whole thing! I hope you love the pictures as much as we do! And if you ever need a photographer that’s as crazy as you, Liz with Trek and Bloom Photography is the girl to go to!

Why We Love The Honest Company

Happy Friday, y’all!

I’m sharing why we love The Honest Company with you today! Specifically speaking, diapers. We have been using Honest diapers since Sophia was born, and we LOVE them! Sophia loves them so much she likes to lay on the floor in a pile of them and take a nap, haha! By the time I was done taking pictures of her, she had all the diapers strewn across the floor…

We love our Honest diapers for many reasons.

Reason # 1: I generally love all of the Honest Company products because they are made without any synthetic products and without chemicals. The diapers specifically are made without the chemicals other diaper brands have that cause hormone and growth issues, not to mention cause rashes in the diaper area. So with Honest, we are safe from all harmful effects! And they are hypoallergenic, very absorbent and fit nicely to prevent any leaking.

Reason # 2: They have super fun prints! And they have new prints for every season! I always get excited to see the new prints, and they just released the new fall season prints available for bundles! We also get to have a say in what prints are released! How cool is that?!

Reason # 3: BUNDLES! You can save a lot of money by bundling your diapers (they also have an essentials bundle, organic infant formula bundle, and a health and wellness bundle). With the diaper bundle, you receive 6 packs of diapers and 4 packs of wipes, and a really awesome thing about the diaper bundle is you can add up to 3 extra items, ANY item, and receive 25% off each item! I like to add the training pants/pull-ups to our bundle since we are slowly, but surely working on potty training. Also, with the bundle, you get them shipped to your house for free however often you want them! We get ours shipped every 4 weeks, and if we feel we have too many diapers, we can skip a shipment!

Reason # 4: They have GREAT customer service! Any time I’ve had an issue or any questions, they have helped me in every way and more without any problems and without bad attitude. If there is one thing I cannot stand, it’s someone with a bad attitude. It puts me in a very bad mood, and makes it very frustrating for me when I am trying to get an issue solved. But the Honest Company has stood true their great customer service since we’ve used them.

Reason # 5: They are always on top of things, and taking care of business!

Side note: We use The Honest Company cleaning products in our house as well. The cleaning products are awesome! They smell great, and they really get the job done. And they are safe to use around children and pets since they are made naturally, and chemical free.

Thank you, Honest Co. for making our lives so much better and much more fun!

P.S. Go get your bundles and snag the new fall prints! You can receive $20 off your first bundle when you order now! Link: The Honest Company

PetSmart Finds

As most of you know, I love animals. Especially my pups and kitty at home. So when it comes to taking care of them, I like to give them the best! I LOVE buying them fun toys to play with and when I found these ADORABLE toys at PetSmart, I knew I had to buy them! They are the ED by Ellen DeGeneres toys, and you can find them online or in store. I love the Ellen D. toys because they are super fun for Charlie and Charm. The ones I purchased have squeakers, which my pups literally go crazy over. The way she designed them has a cute and fun air about them. She and PetSmart launched the line early this year, and are planning to release more for fall and the holidays! I can’t wait to see what she has coming! She also just launched products for cats!

Also, I like to get the KONG squeaker balls for my dogs. They are pretty durable, unless you have dogs like mine that destroy everything immediately, but they are still great throwing in the yard or at the park. I mostly love them because they have the squeaker, and like I said before, they go crazy over squeaks so it catches their attention!

As for treats, I like to buy them the MilkBone large dog biscuits. They are great for their teeth, and my dogs think they taste good. I mean, obviously. Any time they hear the word treat, they look at me like, “What did you just say?”, with their tails wagging vigorously.

If you have pets, I definitely recommend these items and shopping for them at PetSmart! PetSmart has some good discounts going on now too! If you shop online now, you can receive 15% OFF of certain items, and August 21st-23th, you can receive $30 off your purchase of over $100 (online only)! Follow this link to start shopping. You will also find the links for each item below the pictures.

Day at the Dog Park

Good afternoon, Loves!

Today, we decided to spend some time at the dog park. Charlie and Charm were both getting restless at home and were in desperate need of outdoor playtime. I like to take them to a dog park called Tom Slick Park because they have a dog play area, walking trails, and a lake for the dogs to swim in. My dogs LOVE the lake. Especially on hot summer days like today. We were there for quite a while running (and swimming) around. Sophia and I even put our feet in the water to cool off. Not long after we got there, a few other dogs showed up. It was a lot of fun for all of them! If you live in San Antonio and have dogs, you should go to this park! It will wear them out for sure!

I hope you all are having a great Thursday! Thank you for stopping by!

4th of July Recipe Inspo

Good afternoon, Lovelies!

The 4th of July is coming up next week! Can you believe it?! I can’t wait! I’m not sure what our plans are yet, but I hope it involves swimming, friends and family, good food and of course FIREWORKS! I know for sure we will be seeing fireworks in the evening. That’s the best part of celebrating our country’s birthday! What will all of you be doing to celebrate the 4th of July? I would love to hear what y’all will be up to and what traditions you typically have or if you plan to start new traditions!

Speaking of good food, I wanted to share a few recipes and some other food ideas that I thought would be great for celebrating the 4th of July. I have been using this website called Gathered Table to get my recipes from for some time now and I have really been enjoying it! They have great recipes to choose from in a bunch of different categories. I found these two recipes I am sharing from there, and if you try them, you’ll have to let me know if you like them!

Chipotle-Lime Grilled Chicken

Gathered Table Recipe

Grilled Mexican Street Corn

This recipe is my favorite! I’ve never tasted corn so good! And I’ll bet you haven’t either!

Gathered Table Recipe

And lastly, you can’t go wrong with some good, juicy watermelon! You can just slice it up and serve it OR you can zing it up a bit and squirt some lime juice on it! It’s so good that way! You might as well since both recipes above call for limes!

Wildlife Father’s Day

Hi guys! Happy Monday!

So, of course everyone knows yesterday was Father’s Day. We decided to spend our Sunday as a family at the Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch here in San Antonio. We went to church in the morning, came home for naps, and since Sophia had been relentlessly asking to see the giraffes since Saturday, David and I took her to go see them! It was a fun time for all of us. Sophia is a huge animal lover (thank goodness for that since her momma is too!), so anywhere there are animals, she is exploding with excitement and yells at the top of her lungs the names of the animals, haha! I am so in love with the fact that she loves animals so much. It makes this animal lover momma a happy momma! And even though David is NOT a big animal lover, he still had a lot of fun. We got to see the Giraffes (of course), Rhinos, Wildebeests, Camels, Buffalo, Longhorns and many more. Enjoy the pics below! You can also visit the Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch on their website to check out the cool things they have, and if you’re ever in San Antonio, I highly recommend visiting those precious animals!
